(Director and Musical Director):
Originally from Llanelli but now based in Cardiff, James works in theatre as both composer and director. Previous work with Hijinx includes Miss Brown to You, Into My Own (also Director), Gulliver, Full Circle, The Long Way Home, Ruling the Roost, Seize the Day and Spinning the Round Table. Other companies worked for include Sherman Cymru, Torri Gair, Alice Theatre, Everyman Theatre, the Torch Theatre, Sgript Cymru, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Arts Active at St David’s Hall, Theatr Y Byd, the English Shakespeare Company, Welsh National Opera, Carlson Dance Company, Greenwich Theatre, Theatrician in Kolkata,India and the Millennium Dome. He was composer in residence for Dance Blast for 3 years and has worked as singing coach on the acting course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. James has collaborated with Lesley Ross on Shreds – a musical about Jack the Ripper and with Scott Pryor on Unga Bunga – the Stoneage Spectacular, The Snow Queen and Billy and the Bwca.
Gaynor Lougher (Director):
Gaynor was born and raised in Cardiff and trained as a teacher in Swansea. She founded Hijinx Theatre with Richard Berry in 1981, and toured with the company as an actress for many years before becoming Artistic Director in 1994. Gaynor regularly directs the spring show for adults with learning disabilities, and runs Odyssey Theatre, a performance group with includes people with learning disabilities (National Lottery Awards 2009 – runner up Best Arts Project in the UK category). Gaynor is passionate about inclusion and has a firm belief that everyone has something to offer – in 2007 she was invited to Westchester Institute for Human Development in New York State to share her skills and working practice. In March 2009 she directed Hijinx’s first production specifically for Theatres, a new play by Alan Harris Miss Brown to You.
Mary Drummond (Designer):
Mary graduated in 2006 from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Cardiff. She has since worked with Sherman Cymru, Farnham Maltings and Bristol Old Vic amongst others. She also has a keen interest in puppetry perfomance and is a puppetry Tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. This will be the fifth time she has designed for Hijinx (Ruling the Roost, Full Circle, Chasing Rainbows, Into My Own) as well as design for Hijinx’s Odyssey ‘Pods’. Mary lives in Bristol, and in her spare time likes collecting old bottles, knitting, travelling, riding her bike and speaking French.
Jane Lalljee (Lighting Designer and Company Stage Manager):
Jane was born in Birmingham and gained a degree in English and History from De Montfort University, Leicester. She completed the Advanced Diploma Course in Stage Management at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 1994. Since then, she has worked with various companies including Hijinx, Theatr Iolo, Spectacle, Gwent Theatre, Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Theatre Centre, The Sherman Theatre and Sgript Cymru. Jane was Technical Manager for Diversions Dance Company before joining Hijinx as full time Company Stage Manager.
Jane is a highly skilled lighting designer, embracing the challenges of small scale touring. Jane has recently been nominated for a Stage Management Association (SMA) Award.
Jane also works freelance through Jane Lalljee Lighting Design.
